Therapeutic Massage

What is it?

Therapeutic Massage is a hands-on bodywork treatment designed to enhance both physical and mental well-being. It targets specific conditions while promoting overall health through techniques like kneading, stroking, and applying pressure to muscles and soft tissues to relieve pain and reduce stress. Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or simply seeking relaxation, therapeutic massage can be personalized to meet your unique needs.

At The Covery, our experienced and highly-skilled Neuromuscular Therapist tailors each session to meet your unique goals, helping you achieve the relaxation, relief and rejuvenation you deserve. With specialized training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology, our therapist is equipped to provide the highest level of care, customized to your individual needs.

Benefits

  • Pain Relief: Massage therapy helps reduce muscle tension and alleviate discomfort associated with a variety of conditions, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, tension headaches, lymphatic drainage, post-surgical recovery, and pregnancy.

  • Stress Reduction: By stimulating the body’s parasympathetic nervous system, massage can lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and promote feelings of calm and relaxation.

  • Increased Circulation and Detoxification: Therapeutic massage enhances blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to muscles and tissues, which supports healing and reduces fatigue. Additionally, it aids in detoxification, promoting healing on both physical and mental levels.

  • Improved Flexibility and Range of Motion: Regular massage therapy can enhance flexibility and mobility by releasing tight muscles and improving joint function. Techniques such as passive range of motion (PRM) and passive muscle resistance (PMR) help identify and address deeper underlying issues, resulting in a more effective and beneficial therapeutic session.

  • Better Sleep: Massage can help relax the mind and body, leading to improved sleep quality, especially for those who struggle with insomnia.

  • Mental Clarity: Therapeutic massage helps reduce stress and tension, clearing the mind, improving focus, and enhancing overall well-being. It also strengthens the mind-body connection, making it a truly beneficial whole-body experience.

  • Supports Recovery: Ideal for individuals of all activity levels, massage aids in muscle recovery by relieving stress, strains, and soreness, as well as supporting post-surgery healing.

What to Expect

Personalized Experience: Your session will begin with a brief consultation to discuss any concerns or areas you’d like to focus on (e.g., back pain, tight shoulders, stress) and a brief medical intake.

  • Comfortable Setting: You’ll be guided to a private treatment room where you’ll lie on a comfortable massage table. Your therapist will ensure that you feel at ease throughout the session.

  • Techniques and Pressure: Your therapist will use various techniques customized to your specific goals and needs. You can communicate your preferences for pressure—whether you prefer a light, relaxing touch or a deeper, more intense massage.

  • Duration: Sessions typically last 30, 60, or 90 minutes, depending on the treatment you choose.

  • Post-Treatment Relaxation: After your massage, you’ll feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Your therapist may provide recommendations for post-session care, such as staying hydrated or gentle stretching.

How to Prepare

Arrive Early: Arriving 10-15 minutes before your appointment allows you time to fill out any necessary forms and to settle in. It also gives you a chance to communicate any specific needs or areas of tension to your therapist.

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before and after your massage to help flush out toxins and support muscle recovery. Staying well-hydrated after a session enhances the benefits and helps you fully experience the positive effects of the massage.

  • Be Open About Your Needs: Don’t hesitate to let your therapist know if you prefer a certain pressure level or if you have any areas of discomfort. Your comfort is our priority.

  • Avoid Heavy Meals: Try not to eat a heavy meal right before your massage, as it could leave you feeling uncomfortable while lying on the table.

  • Wear Comfortable Clothing: While you will be undressed to your level of comfort during the massage, it’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing to the spa. You’ll be draped with a towel or sheet for your privacy.
